The role we play in the human services arena is as unique as the people we work with. These are a few of their stories: Mary is an attractive woman in her mid-50s. She is mild-mannered and intelligent, holding degrees in both architecture and psychology. However, her psychotic nature often blurs her sense of reality. Her delusions have lead her to Idaho, where she is convinced she operates an Inn. PLANCO, at the request of Mary's elderly mother, now oversees her medication, provides a social outlet through our activities program, and set up a special needs trust to provide for her financial future. Ned is a petite, soft-spoken man, an artist in his soul and by training. He lives downtown in a subsidized apartment that was recently renovated. PLANCO coordinated the move of his belongings into temporary housing during the renovation. Though it seems a simple job, it was well beyond the capabilities of this mentally ill man. Ned also depends on PLANCO for transportation to and from routine doctors appointments that are scheduled by PLANCO staff, as well as other life skills assistance. Linda is a paranoid schizophrenic. She hears voices that make the simplest task nearly impossible, like riding the bus to the community center to pick up her medication. That's where PLANCO assists her. We escort Linda to her weekly appointments where she can get her medication to stop the voices. And for someone as socially isolated as Linda, the companionship of PLANCO staff is priceless. At PLANCO, our staff is dedicated to easing our clients' daily struggles, providing them with a safety net of coordinated care, and giving their families peace of mind that their loved one's care and quality of life is our priority. |
